How to treat your Deer over the summer

Two pair of skis leaning against a concrete wall in a workshop, next to a workbench with drawers, tools, and orange storage bins under a bright task light.

The ski season may end, but your commitment to maintaining your equipment shouldn't. If you store your skis and boots properly over the summer like the pros do, you preserve what will make the difference for the next season - grip, structure, and speed.

Summer vacation for your setup

01 Cleaning: The Foundation of Proper Care

Before storing your skis, make sure you clean them thoroughly. Remove any dirt, salt, dust or old wax residue from the base and edges. Residues like these can trap moisture and cause the steel edges to corrode.

Here’s how to proceed:

  • Brush out the base with a copper brush

  • Clean with a polishing cloth and wax remover

  • Then allow the skis to dry completely

A clean surface is essential to ensure that the wax can properly penetrate the base in the next step.

Pro tip: Remove any residual moisture under the plate using compressed air.

02 Waxing: Protection for the Summer

After cleaning, apply storage wax. Spread a generous layer of hot wax over the entire base to protect your skis from drying out and the effects of the environment. Remove any excess wax from the edges to prevent rust.

For summer storage, the following wax types are recommended:

  • Warm or medium temperature wax

  • Softer waxes that penetrate deeper into the structure

03 Storage: Dry, Cool, and Relaxed

Once your skis are cleaned and protected

with storage wax, proper storage conditions are key.

What you should keep in mind:

  • A dry place with constant temperature

  • No direct sunlight

  • No high humidity

  • No excessive heat (e.g. avoid storing in the attic during summer)

  • Suitable locations include a basement, storage room, or a dedicated ski room

Whether you store your skis horizontally or vertically is less important.

What matters more is that they are:

  • Dry

  • Not exposed to tension or pressure

Pro tip: Lightly oil the edges to further prevent rust formation.

04 Ski boots: how to keep them in top shape over the summer

We also have the perfect summer routine for your ski boots:

  • Remove the liner and sole and dry them separately to prevent odours and material wear

  • Clean the shells and buckles with a damp cloth to remove dirt and salt

  • Store the boots slightly closed at the top and open at the bottom to maintain their shape

  • Choose a dry, cool place for storage

Conclusion: Preserve the perfect turn over the summer

With proper care in spring, you lay the foundation for a successful ski season next winter. Properly stored skis preserves grip, structure, speed and form.

Before your first day of skiing, make sure you scrape and brush the base of your skis - ready to go!
